Revolution is Dead and Theory is Dead
Theory is dead. There truly is nothing to see here. The reason why there is now nothing to see here is because it has began to be just infighting on mischaracterizations based on someone’s mischaracterizations of an author who’s true beliefs may never be known, its words passed by the filters of the Postmodern worlds subjectity. None of us read books in which the actual theory is on because we mostly get new information from the internet, an agent of capitalist Spectacle. We attach beliefs onto ourselves based on what someone knows about it. We fear ideas that someone has labelled acceptable and we support ideas that someone has called good.
Theory was supposed to critique the society that we are living in, and the psychology of the alienated masses. However, ever since the advent of r/politicalcompassmemes, Jreg and the humorification of niche politics, there is nothing to see in theory. Theory as an artform and as a critical technique is as far as I’m concerned, dead.
Revolution is dead too. We have already passed the point in which capitalism could be destroyed, and replaced with something new. Neoliberalism rose in response to communism. Neoliberalism has its anti-Communist precursor in 50s propaganda and Mccarthyist paranoia. It is ingrained in everyone’s heads that communism = bad. The dreaded red fascist lizard sjw snowflake menace will steal your furniture and clothing and make you a slave, according to the propaganda surrounding anti-Communism.
It’s a continuation of the satanic panic of the 1980s and the paranoia surrounding communism of the 1960s. Now we have children joking about gulags, social credit in china and John Cena being held hostage by Deng Xiping because of the lack of understanding of Communism and related movements, and there is no actual left-wing movement in the US in order to counter-act this.
On top of this, Communism is dead in the western worlds eyes. Fukuyama famously proclaimed the fall of the Berlin Wall to be the end of history, and most of the western world has unknowingly agreed with him. That’s why revolution is dead.
Revolution is dead, long live the Spectacle.
Theory is dead, long live Social Media.
