An Analysis of Dice.org/DICE

For those of you who don’t know, DICE are a group of edgelords run by Mortis (aka Mortisism), visual artist and the de facto leader. People have claimed a lot of negative things about these people, including that Mortis fucked his dog, they encourage self-harm, etc. I’ve been interested in this group for a while now, because it’s an example of how internet communities develop and claim negative energy over themselves.

There’s an atmosphere of unsettlement around Mortis, and its members, and I’d recommend you stay away from it, especially since Mortis does have a god complex going on, and thinks that he should be worshiped. It’s essentially something out of a Outlast-like horror game, if we’re going through that route of comparisons.

DICE’s followerbase is divided, with some people claiming that DICE are evil cultists and awful people, others (which is most of DICE’s congregation) claiming that Mortis is a Godhead that everyone should desire to be like, and worship. So essentially, Mortis is a Jim Jones type figure minus the mass suicide and mind control.

I think that’s important to address that DICE isn’t a cult per se, but rather, as i mentioned before, a group of young edgelords doing stereotypical young edgelord things. Dark imagery, joking about things like self-harm, zoophilia, etc. are all tryhard fake-edgy things to do, and the fact that people are milking Mortis and company for viewership is really unsettling to me. We’re essentially creating this unneeded narrative of a cult that requires its membership to do awful things to each other and themselves, and to worship Mortis full-time, and that’s something that we should strive to not do when talking about groups like this.

It’s like North Korea: North Korea is a shithole, but news about it is really exaggerated or just flat out false. The rumors that Kim Jong Un, current ruler of North Korea, fed his uncle to a hungry pack of wolves, or that he executed his ex girlfriend soon after he broke up with her, is false, just like how the rumors that Mortis, leader of DICE, fucked his dog and shared it to DICE congregation, or that Mortis encourages self-harm among them and thinks members of his congregation wanting to rape him or be raped by him is hot, are false, although not surprising if they were true.

Overall, this is just another example of how people can over-exaggerate bad things, and turn them into the 21st century Hitler Youth. There’s a lot to critique about DICE and it’s leadership: there is literally no need to milk DICE for attention.
